Thankful

We did it. We made it to the end of the school year. Well…end of the grading part of the end of the school year, but that’s the part that really matters. Between now and next Friday there are a lot of things going on.

We have the end of the year MYP party, MYP school awards, the MYP graduation for the Grade 10s, parent teacher conferences, and somewhere in there I need to clean up the DART room, catalog the legos and vex stuff, and set my budget for next year.

The last few days we’ve been making all the merchandise for the fundraiser we did two weeks ago. My students designed t-shirts, bags, and stickers to raise money for Second Harvest Japan. It’s Japan’s only national food bank so it is nice that their designs helped raise over $300 to feed hungry people. Tomorrow we should have all the designs completed and packaged so that will be a relief to the end of the year. I’m so thankful that my students got to see a positive impact their work will have.

This year has been hard. We can all agree that this pandemic has sucked. But I’m so thankful for technology. If I couldn’t have talked to my mom via Facetime every day, I don’t think I’d have made it. At times it has felt like I wouldn’t make it. Doesn’t matter if you’re 3, 13, or 30, Mommas always know what to say to make you feel better. I’m so thankful for my momma.

Every choice that I’ve made this year has been to survive. I’ve been more stressed this year than I have ever been at a job. A lot of it was pressure put on me, and others were things that I couldn’t change or had any control over. That part has been hard. But 10 years ago I’d have never stood up for myself and said, my plate is too full. Now granted I did it in a full blown panic attack to my admin, and I’ve probably screwed up ever getting to build the robotics program for the external program, but I’m thankful I spoke up for myself.

I need to do that more.

But all in all I’m thankful this school year is almost over. It’s been a doozy. 5.5 more days to go. I’m thankful for that.
